Re: Researching American POWs during WWII

Justin, I posted my first response before I added an additional recommendation. For an interesting perspective on Luftwaffe treatment of POWs, see _The Interrogator: The Story of Hanns Scharff, Lufftwaffe's Master Interrogator_. Raymond Toliver assisted Scharff in publishing this book based on his memoirs in 1978 and a second publisher picked up the work for republication in 1997.

Re: Researching American POWs during WWII

Justin, Sorry to be slow to this discussion. I strongly recommend you consult the special collections at the USAF Academy Library, especially the Lt General Albert P. Clark based Stalag Luft III collection -- https://afac.ent.sirsi.net/client/en_US/default/?rm=STALAG+LUFT+III0%7C%...

General Clark was an early USAAF POW of the Germans and his personal papers, including photographs, is a remarkable source. The collection includes many papers of other POWs and in 1998 it received the archives of the Prisoners of War of Stalag Luft III organization that disbanded that year.

The Military Collection at the State Archives of North Carolina would like to announce the availability online of one of its largest WWII photograph collections. The 392 photographs are from the Robert R. Morrison Jr. Papers (WWII 33) in the World War II Papers of the Military Collection. They are the most completely identified and dated collection of European Theater occupation photographs in the Military Collection, containing full captions written by Morrison Jr.
