Re: H-Diplo Roundtable XVI, 18 on Westmoreland’s War, Reassessing American Strategy in Vietnam

I would like to say a few words about Colonel Gregory Daddis’ response to my comments about factual errors in his book Westmoreland’s War.

In the book, Daddis describes the battle fought by Colonel Harold Moore’s 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry, beginning on November 14, 1965 at Landing Zone X-Ray in the Ia Drang Valley. He wrote, “For three days Moore’s unit gallantly held off waves of NVA assaults, arguably saved only by the B-52 bombing strikes which the US Air Force employed for the first time in a tactical role” (p. 97).
