Pitt's Summer Language Institute is pleased to announce several open positions for summer instructors at SLI 2022. These appointments run from June 6 - July 15/29, 2022 (end date depends on language) in Pittsburgh, though there may also be a limited number of online (fully synchronous) opportunities.
The University of Pittsburgh Slavic Department invites applications to its graduate program, which provides a full range of courses, with strengths in contemporary Russian culture and cinema. Our program has supported dissertations in such diverse areas as contemporary Russian prose, Soviet postmodern culture, Thaw cinema, Soviet civic poetry, Belomor prison culture, post-Soviet philosophy, the Soviet anekdot, and Stagnation-era television serials.

We write with great sadness to report to you that Dr. Linda Penkower passed away on February 27. A pioneer in the study of medieval Chinese and Japanese Buddhist history, she leaves a legacy of unbounded intellectual generosity. She is remembered by her students as a formidable reader who would always have a challenging comment and a compassionate mentor who never failed to demonstrate her unwavering faith in them just as she never shied away from showing the pride she took in even the smallest of their accomplishments.
