Re: Query: Recommendations for readings on Zionism, Religious Aspects

I suggest these:

Zionist Revolution: A New Perspective Hardcover, by Harold Fisch, 1978
The Jewish Revolution; Jewish Statehood, by Israel Eldad, updated edition 2007
Eretz Yisrael: The Teachings of HaRav Avraham Yitzhak HaCohen Kook, by Rav David Samson and Tzvi Fishman, 1996
Religion and Zionism First Encounters, by Yosef Salmon, 2002

Here are some resources that you might find useful from Mechon Hadar lectures given by Shai Held:

Also, for a study of Jewish religious reactions to Zionism see: "Messianism, Zionism, and Jewish Religious Radicalism" by Aviezer Ravitzky

Re: Query: Recommendations for readings on Zionism, Religious Aspects

Dear Justin,

I think that Aviezer Ravitzky's "Messianism, Zionism, and Jewish Religious Messianism" might be the best place to start, as it is somewhat recent and examines different religious approaches to Zionism. Ehud Luz's "Parallels Meet" might be the best for looking at the relationship between religious and secular Zionism (and anti-Zionism as well) in the first decades of the movement.

Query: Recommendations for readings on Zionism, Religious Aspects

I am preparing a course for this fall titled "Zionism: Religious Aspects." As I have described the course to prospective students, "After a brief review of the history of the modern Zionist movement and the State of Israel, we will look at Zionist, anti-Zionist and Zionism-related Jewish religious thinking. We will try to understand all perspectives without necessarily agreeing with any of them. Students of all views and backgrounds welcome."
