Dear Ms. Somotan,
I want to submit a proposal for a paper on Nike Davis Okundaye at the Lagos Studies Association Conference in 2019. I am a freelance scholar, art historian, collector, and gallery owner with a focus on contemporary African art. I met Nike in Osogbo in 1979; I was the first collector of her work. It has been a great privilege to be her friend and admirer and to witness her remarkable career from the beginning. My presentation will give a first hand account of her early years, struggles, and successes.
The Lagos Studies Association is pleased to organize a special panel in honor of the remarkable career of world-renowned textile artist Nike Davis Okundaye.
