Maudellen Brice Lanier (1881-1972), civil rights activist

Maudellen Brice was born to Louis M. and Harriet Enty Brice in Pittsburgh in 1867. In 1900, Maudellen Brice married Marshall Bell (M.B.) Lanier, a Presbyterian minister. The census lists her as a stenographer at the time.

Mary Virginia Cook c1890

Mary Virginia Cook, later Cook-Parrish, (1863-1945) around 1890 when she was professor of Latin and Mathematics as well as principal of the Normal School at Louisville's State University. By this time, she was already gaining a name for herself as an orator and journalist.
