CONFERENCE REGISTRATION EXTENDED: The Holocaust and Motherhood

Registration for the Holocaust Research Institute's upcoming conference, 'The Holocaust and Motherhood', has been extended until Friday 9 March 2018.

The conference consists of two separate events. On the evening of Thursday 22 March 2018, Dr Zoë Waxman (University of Oxford) will deliver a keynote lecture on 'Mothers, Sisters, Resisters? Motherhood and the Holocaust Twenty Years On' at The Wiener Library, central London, UK. This event is free; please click here to register.

CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS: The Holocaust Research Institute Workshop Series: The Holocaust in Contemporary Visual Media

The Holocaust Research Institute at Royal Holloway, University of London, is pleased to announce its Spring Term 2018 workshop, 'The Holocaust in Contemporary Visual Media'. This workshop focuses on new directions and methodologies in contemporary scholarship on the Holocaust in moving image media. Moving beyond familiar debates around genre, representation and the 'canon' of Holocaust cinema, the presentations stage a variety of encounters with contemporary media on the threshold of a 'post-memory' Holocaust culture.

The following book may be of interest to you: ' Birth, Sex and Abuse: Women's Voices under Nazi Rule' by Beverley Chalmers (Grosvenor House Publishers, UK, 2015). This book has won ten book awards including the USA National Jewish Book Award, the Canadian Vine Award for Jewish Literature, the Canadian Jewish Literary Award, and a CHOICE 'Outstanding Academic Title' award. The book provides a novel perspective on the Nazi era and on the neglected issue of the Nazi abuse of childbearing and sexuality.

REMINDER: Registration for 'The Holocaust and History' Now Open

This is a reminder that registration is now open for our upcoming conference, 'The Holocaust and History: The Work and Legacy of David Cesarani'.

Our colleague David Cesarani (1956-2015) was a leading historian of the Holocaust and of Anglo-Jewry, and a public intellectual concerned with the importance of historical understanding. The aim of this conference is to celebrate his work through presenting and debating leading and new research in these areas, and by holding a large public engagement event on recent work on the Holocaust and its legacy.
