CFP: MLA 2022-Race and the Aesthetics of Refusal in Contemporary Latin America/Hemispheric Americas
As evidenced in the hemispheric and global nature of movements such as #BlackLivesMatter, race is gaining public attention in Latin America in new ways, and culture is proving an important platform of engagement in the public sphere. These collective actions call attention to continuities throughout the late twentieth and twenty-first centuries, as Latin America has witnessed forced migration due to political/racial/gender violence in increasing numbers. In this panel, we seek to engage with current interventions on racial justice and cultural politics in the Americas.
