Symposium: "Prisoners of the Asia-Pacific War" (Feb 7-8)

We are pleased to announce the opening of our online symposium titled “Prisoners of the Asia-Pacific War: History, Memory, and Forgetting” to registered audience members. The symposium will be held across two days between 16:00-19:30 on Tuesday, February 7 and 9:00-17:00 on Wednesday, February 8, Japan time. This symposium brings together scholars researching the histories, memorialization and forgetting of prisoners and prison camps of the Asia Pacific War. See the schedule below.

There is still time to register for the 1-day course to learn about Military Missing in Action Research Methods.

The course (6-hour session) will introduce participants to the methods of military missing in action research, such as using online sources, searching databases, obtaining and interpreting government documents, identifying crash locations, and tracking unknowns to national cemeteries.

Prisoners of the Asia-Pacific War: History, Memory, and Forgetting

This is a call for papers and panels for an online symposium on February 8, 2023 on soldier and civilian prisoners in the (Austral)Asia-Pacific during WWII. In particular, it focuses on places, practices and memories of incarceration.

Re: New Article on Italian POWS in the United States during WW II

Question wondered about for some time. Why would Italians take arms against the US and Democracy in the first place?

Beside the purpose of this study by the author, what motivations would there have been?
