CFP: 6th Bethlehem Conference on Moravian History & Music

This conference explores Moravian history and music from the fifteenth to twenty-first centuries in Europe, the Americas, Asia, Africa, and Australia.

Proposals for individual papers, panels or lecture recitals on any topic related to Moravian history and music are now being accepted. Please submit a proposal of 300 words or less, accompanied by CV, by April 15, 2018.

2018 German Studies Association Call for Proposals




The German Studies Association (GSA) will hold its 42nd Annual Conference from 27 to 30 September 2018 at the Wyndham Grand Pittsburgh Downtown in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (USA)

The Program Committee cordially invites proposals on any aspect of German, Austrian, or Swiss studies, including (but not limited to) history, Germanistik, film, art history, political science, anthropology, musicology, religious studies, sociology, and cultural studies.

CEHS Travel and Research Grants

The Central European History Society (CEHS) seeks applications from North American doctoral candidates (ABD) and recent PhDs (up to three years after completion of degree) in Central European history for travel and research grants up to $3,500. Funds are intended to support dissertation research and follow-up research, and may be used on travel between 1 April and 31 December 2018.

Free Documentary on Reformation, Pietism, and Awakening Movement

Together with an Emmy-Award-winning videographer and producer, Jim Gromer, I recently produced a half-hour documentary, "Exploring the Reformation and Revivals."  This documentary discusses the Reformation, the Pietist revivals, and the early nineteenth-century Awakening Movement.  We filmed on location in Germany and Switzerland, including (for the Pietist segment) at Berlin, Halle, and Herrnhut.  The documentary is designed for use in classrooms and churches and is available at youtube:
