Call for Papers - AJS Perspectives: The Unfinished Issue

The Fall 2020 issue of AJS Perspectives: The Magazine of the Association for Jewish Studies is called The Unfinished Issue. In this time of flux and doubt, we invite Jewish Studies colleagues in any discipline to consider what it means for an idea or a task to be finished or unfinished, or to have one or more unfinished projects in our real or digital file cabinets.

CFP: Teaching Chinese Film, MLA Options for Teaching volume, edited by Zhuoyi Wang, Emily Wilcox, and Hongmei Yu

In recent years, the humanities and social sciences have witnessed a fast-growing presence of pedagogical practices with moving images across a wide range of fields. Along with the ever-changing film studies curriculum, films have been used in diverse ways to, among other purposes, increase learning motivation and engagement; provide cognitive facilities for theoretical concepts; present complex and subtle information as analytical materials; and simulate an experience with unfamiliar, underrepresented, or difficult-to-reach subjects.

Understanding how race, ethnicity, and origin were constructed and defined in the Islamicate world is a work in progress. Along with understanding the development of these categories, how we teach and discuss them within our discipline is also vital.
