Collection Description (from online finding aid): Herb Elliott was born in Subiaco on 25 February 1938. From the age of 15 until his retirement from athletics at the age of 22, he was never beaten over a mile or 1500 metres. A qualified engineer, he has served on a number of Australian Government committees, mostly in relation to sport.
Collection Description (from online finding aid): In the early 1930s, Frank Read became an accomplished oarsman with the Vancouver Rowing Club. Following a back injury, suffered while playing football, that ended his rowing career, he went into the hotel industry. In late 1949, Read agreed to coach the University of British Columbia rowing team which, at the same time, began a formal co-operation with the Vancouver Rowing Club.
Collection Description (from online finding aid): Robert (Bob) F. Osborne was a University of British Columbia athlete, coach and a founder of UBC’s School of Physical Education. He enrolled at UBC in 1930 and excelled as a student athlete in basketball and track and field. He led the 1930/31 basketball team to UBCs first national championship. In 1936 Osborne played on the Canadian Olympic basketball team that earned a silver medal in the Berlin Olympics. He taught high school at Lady Byng Secondary and coached women’s varsity basketball during World War II.
