New Jersey Studies Academic Alliance meeting - April 7

The next meeting of the NJSAA will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2015. The location is the Pane Room at the Alexander Library, Rutgers University, 169 College Avenue, New Brunswick.  The meeting is free and open to the public.  It will begin with a business meeting at 3 pm.  This will be followed at 4:15 pm by presentations of student winners of the 2014 Paul Stellhorn Award for their undergraduate papers: 

2015 New Jersey History Awards

The New Jersey Studies Academic Alliance announces the following awards for 2015.  Request nomination guidelines or ask questions of the contact person for each.  Note that each has a different nomination deadline.

The Paul A. Stellhorn Undergraduate New Jersey History Award recognizes outstanding undergraduate writing about any topic in New Jersey history.  Separate awards for senior theses and seminar or course papers.  June 1.  Richard Waldron, acrelius@optonline.net.*

Academic Alliance Announces Teaching, Undergraduate Writing Awards

The New Jersey Studies Academic Alliance (NJSAA) will present awards to the following people at the 2014 New Jersey Forum, Saturday, November 22, at Kean University in Union, NJ.

Teaching Awards

High School Division:  Mary Ellen Fitzhenry, Bayonne Hugh School, in recognition of her professionalism, dedication to her students and craft, and for instilling in her students academic skills far beyond their years and for helping them to delve deeply into the history of New Jersey.

The New Jersey Studies Academic Alliance was founded to encourage the teaching of New Jersey studies and to help teachers to more efficiently and thoroughly present the study of the state to their students. In the spring of 1999 the Alliance first initiated awards to recognize innovation and creativity in teaching New Jersey studies on the elementary, middle, secondary, and college level. Nominations are now being opened for recipients of the 13th Annual Teaching Awards in New Jersey Studies.

Do you know somebody who deserves an award for writing a book, librarianship, teaching, or student research -- all connected to New Jersey?  Consider sending a nomination to the New Jersey Studies Academic Alliance, an organization formed in 1992.  The NJSAA promotes the teaching of New Jersey studies, collaboration on projects, and sharing of materials.
