Established in 1899, Vicksburg National Military Park was the fifth national military park created by Congress. The park was created to preserve the site of the Battle of Vicksburg, waged from March to July 1863.

The Natchez National Historical Park if famous for its large antebellum mansions. The park preserves the Melrose Estate, William Johnson's townhouse, and Fort Rosalie. It was established under the presidency of Ronald Reagan.
