"Algumas das inúmeras possibilidades oferecidas pela literatura de ficção científica são as possibilidades ficcionais de fuga e os projetos alternativos de sociedade. No caso do Brasil, como inicialmente apresentado de forma geral por M. Elizabeth Ginway (2004), isso ocorre, com frequência, por meio do uso de mitos e lendas regionais, que, em âmbito político, étnico ou ecológico, são transformados em mundos alternativos ou paralelos, desde Steampunk até batalhas espaciais.
