In this practice-based workshop with the artist, performer, researcher and translator Sophie Seita, we will experiment with various translational techniques of writing and making, swimming in the mucky waters between languages or following the messy movement from one medium or material to another through layers of translation, adaptation, and citation.

Entgegen dem in öffentlichen Debatten geäußerten Vorwurf sind die Literatur-, Kultur- und Medienwissenschaft dem Krieg gegenüber nie naiv gewesen. Ganz im Gegenteil besitzen sie ein ebenso weitreichendes wie differenziertes Wissen darüber, was Kriegszustände bedeuten. Die Dortmunder Vortragsreihe „Literatur und Krieg“ macht es sich daher zur Aufgabe, dieses kulturelle Archiv punktuell und exemplarisch zu befragen.
From Nawal el Saadawi’s writings against FGM to Tunisian protests advocating for changes to inheritance law, this panel considers North Africa’s women writers in conversation with the conference theme, resilience. How have these women writers mediated and negotiated their interconnected position within the Mediterranean zone: between Europe and sub-Saharan Africa and between the Mashreq and Al-Andalus? How have they, to borrow from Hélène Cixous, stolen/flown away with the systems that they worked within, including language systems, genre conventions, and traditional literary markets?
