Re: A Social History of Maoist China

Hi Felix!

I once tried to do something on jokes but it was no fun so I aborted my little project. Two collections of “laughting matter” that I know of, that might be of interest to you, are ISBN 7-81017-105-4 《文革笑料集》and ISBN 7-5360-1490-2 《极左笑泪录》. The problem here is that figuring out which ”jokes” are contemporary ones from the period in question and which ones are later ones about the period can be a bit of a problem.

Humour/Islam Question

Dear List Members,

I am putting together a syllabus on humour in/and Islam, and have a question regarding the use of humour in medicine/psychotherapy by Muslim Doctors. Has anyone written about this subject (preferably in English)?

I will be grateful to your suggestions on this question, but more generally on the issue of humour and Islam.

Kind Regards,

Mourad L.
