Der Basler Industrielle Karl Geigy-Hagenbach (1866–1949) war einer der letzten universalen Autographensammler. Seine Kollektion von rund 3000 Einzelstücken versammelte Briefe und andere handschriftliche Zeugnisse möglichst aller Berühmtheiten der neuzeitlichen Herrschafts-, Kirchen- und Geistesgeschichte.
