CFP: 41st annual meeting of the Society for Historians of the Early American Republic

18 – 21 July 2019

The 41st annual meeting of the Society for Historians of the Early American Republic will convene July 18 – 21, 2019 in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

The program committee invites proposals for sessions and papers exploring all aspects of and approaches to the history and culture of the early American republic, c. 1776-1861. We particularly encourage submissions that

SHAFR 2019 Panel: National Security State

I am looking to form a panel on how the National Security State developed during the Cold War for SHAFR 2019. My paper is entitled, "Nixon's War: Fighting the Institutional State." It will examine Nixon's attempts to centralize power in the presidency, and reshape the National Security State to maximize (his) presidential prerogatives.

2018 Lincoln Symposium and Kincaid Lecture

Join scholars of American religion on Friday, November 16, 2018, at the Abraham Lincoln Library and Museum in Harrogate, Tennessee, as they discuss faith in Lincoln's America at this year's Lincoln Symposium and Kincaid Lecture. This year's speakers include Dr. Thomas Kidd, Dr. Terrie Aamodt, and Dr. Luke Harlow.
