This was the fourth meeting of the “warm blooded fieldwork” (“有温度的田野”) workshop series run by Beijing Normal, Shandong and Zhongshan Universities, the three main centers of folklore studies in China. The aim of the larger project is to steer a new path away from the “cold blooded” methodological formalism that records and documents, but does not see. Intellectually led by Liu Tieliang 刘铁梁 and Zhang Shishan 张士闪, this style of fieldwork emphasizes above all else local understandings and meanings.
Recordings from the American Philosophical Society's Fall 2019 conference on "The Power of Maps and the Politics of Borders" are now available for viewing online. The videos may be accessed via the conference website.
