Enthusiastically inviting participants for a roundtable on global Black studies for the Modern Language Association's 2020 convention in Seattle, Washington, USA, 9-12 January.
For this non-guaranteed session, the organizers seek short provocations in response to the following prompt:
How does the prefix "global" alter, expand, or complicate notions and practices of Black studies? Conversely, how does Black study of the world enhance understandings of the global?
I am seeking a third particpant for a panel on Amateur Performers in Britain and its Empire for the 2019 meeting of NACBS this fall (Vancouver, November 14-17).
Jeremy Ball and Sara de Albuquerque are seeking two panelists and a discussant to join a panel they are co-organizing for the 2019 African Studies Association Meeting in Boston/USA (21-23 November 2019). The panel's theme is "Cross-cultural encounters, local botanical knowledge, and scientific networks in 19th-century Angola.” They are open to considering papers on other parts of Lusophone Africa. The panel proposal and individual proposals are copied below.
