Alice Bridgeford was born 8 March 1878, the eldest child of Madeline Robinson and William Lawrence Bridgeford of Louisville. She grew up in an elegant house (later called the Henri Barret Montfort Home and torn down in the early 1950s) on Broadway between Fourth and Fifth Streets, built by her grandfather. She married Robert Moorhead Carrier (1876-1957) of Buffalo, NY on 19 October 1899, and they moved to Sardis, Mississippi where his father owned a sawmill.
