Antiquarianism and the Oriental Artifact 1500-1800
I am organizing a panel for AAS in Asia in Taipei in 2015, which will explore the cultural and artistic significance of antiquarian practices in early twentieth-century China and beyond. These practices might include: the production and collection of rubbings, taking and publishing photographs of antiquities, and the aesthetic nature of depictions of antiquities. I would like to broaden and deepen our understanding of who was appreciating antiquities and would welcome research on women and Japanese collectors, as well as regional networks in China.
