Proposed Panel: Women Filmmakers Around the Globe
Of late, there is a decided increase in the attention toward women’s contributions to culture and media, both in the popular press and academic literature. Numerous writers have documented historical achievements, contemporary struggles, everyday lived experiences, and cultural and societal triumphs of women’s experiences, particularly in screen media.
Call for Articles: Special Issue ‘Woman Suffrage’
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is among the most prominent and admired young writers of African Europhone fiction. As a Nigerian and Igbo author, she has been linked with one of her renowned predecessors, Chinua Achebe. Indeed Achebe himself paid tribute to Adichie's talent, observing that "Adichie came almost fully made." Clearly one of the influences that shaped that talent has been Achebe's own fiction.
The Graduate Research Meet (GRM), an annual national seminar and researchers’ conference is stepping into its fifth edition this year. Organized by doctoral students in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at IIT Guwahati, the Graduate Research Meet (GRM) is held annually with the aim to bring together scholars researching in the various disciplines of the humanities and social sciences across universities and institutions.
The co-chairs of the PCA/ACA Vampire Studies area are soliciting papers, presentations, panels and roundtable discussions which cover any aspect of the Vampire for the Annual National Joint Popular Culture Association/American Culture Association Conference to be held in Washington, DC from April 17-20, 2019. We are particularly interested in papers, presentations, and panels that cover:
● The vampire on television (i.e. The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, The Strain)
The Historical Institute of the University of Wroclaw, together with the Institutes of English Studies and Romance Studies, invite scholars and PhD students to participate in the international conference Freedom, Equality… for Everyone? Women Fighting for Social Advancement 1700-1918, to be held in Wrocław, Poland, on November 20-21, 2018. The first words of the conference topic invoke the slogan of the French Revolution which aimed at democratizing society and, consequently, changing the old-world order.
