James Webb (Colby College) and Iris Borowy (Center for the History of Global Development, University of Shanghai) are organizing a workshop at the University of Shanghai from 27-29 March 2018 on the theme "From Night Soil to Chemical Fertilizers: Transformations in Asian-Pacific Agriculture."

There is funding available to cover air travel, food, and lodging for a few additional scholars.

We would like to include some scholars who are working on the history of night soil use and/or chemical fertilizer use in South Asia or Indonesia.
