The deadline for the NEH-sponsored Seminar, "Courtly Lyric in the Medieval French Tradition: Poetry and Performance" has been extended until March 8.
Since 2009, the Yunus Emre Institute has hosted more than 3,000 people from around the world for a one month stay in Turkey. This year, the Yunus Emre Institute's 2018 Summer School runs from July 16-August 12. Anyone between the ages of 18-35 and who have never been to Turkey is eligible to apply, with the entire application process being done online through the website. The entire cost of the program is covered by the institute, including accomodations, airfare, and meals.
This year's "Animals in Literature and Film" panel at the Midwest Modern Languages Association's annual meeting (November 15–18, 2018 in Kansas City, MO) invites papers engaging the conference's theme of "Consuming Cultures," specifically how the consumption or non-consumption of animals by animals (both human and non-human) has shaped our moral, symbolic, and traditional relationships with what we call "food."

Submissions in Harvard style, along with a short biographical note (150 words) and contact information, will be accepted on a rolling basis. Welcome to G-SLATE 2018, which is being held on Tuesday, August 7 and Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at the Hotel Clio Court Hakata in Fukuoka, Japan. This is a small, international, peer-reviewed conference with a limited number of oral and poster presentation time slots. We encourage all interested participants to submit presentations as early as possible. Please note that submissions and registration will close when the event has reached its capacity.
The Ottoman Summer Program will take place at the Koç University Research Center for Anatolian Civilizations (ANAMED) in Beyoğlu, Istanbul. The program is open to students enrolled in MA and PhD programs. Students are expected to have had Ottoman instruction at least for half an academic year (see: Requirements).
On a global scale, demand for and interest in German language acquisition varies considerably, a phenomenon that has been related to educational and political shifts as well as to social, economic and cultural transformations. While in some areas we witness a lively discussion of the role of German in high school curricula, in other regions there is a boom of both academic and non-academic German language courses that are not necessarily connected to a German Studies program.
