Most of John Dewey’s works (1859-1952) have been so far translated into French and are at last recognized as very important for the entire research community in human and social sciences.  This is testified for example by the review Critique n°787 published in 2013 and entitled ‘Dewey is back’. Gérard Deledalle (1921-2003), who was his assistant and has contributed to making him known in France, regarded him as « the theoretician, the spokesman, the representative and the symbol of progressive education in America and all over in the world (1995 : 8).
