In Latin American historiography there is still much research to be done in order to recuperate the heterogeneous histories of childhood, not only as an area into which adults have projected utopian hopes of a better future, but also as a field in which the worst forms of dominance, exclusion and violence manifest themselves. Throughout Latin American history, children have often been marginalized subjects exposed to multiple forms of violence – from the microcosm of the family to the macrocosm of society.

This SAMLA panel invites papers on representations of the Holocaust in 20th and 21st-century texts or films. Topics might include but are not limited to examination of second and third generation Holocaust writers, use of the Holocaust as metaphor, children's and YA lit about the Holocaust, portrayal of survivors in Holocaust films, and resistance movements within camps or ghettos. Paper proposals addressing the SAMLA 90 theme, “Fighters from the Margins: Socio-Political Activists and Their Allies,” are especially welcome.
