This collection aims to expand previous regional and individual studies of queenship and female political agency in order to engage in a comparative study on a global scale. While the field of queenship studies and examinations of gender and power have been fruitful to date, there has been a tendency to focus almost exclusively on the European sphere.
The Institute of Modern History (IMH) at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (Beijing) and the Historical Society for Twentieth-Century China (HSTCC) in the United States jointly invite world-wide participation in a symposium, “Modern China in World Affairs: Interaction and Mutual Influence,” to be held in Beijing, China on August 19-21, 2016. This collaborative undertaking constitutes the HSTCC 2016 biennial meeting and the 6th IMH international conference on the modern history of Chinese foreign relations.
