Academic Studies Press is happy to announce the launch of a new book series, Studies in History and Sociology of Music. This series will present different perspectives on music, musicians, ballet and music theater performers as well as their existence as part of society.
In affirming the continuing presence and influence of that musico-political vital force known as Fela Anikulapo Kuti, we need to acknowledge the fact that African music itself has become a problematic category in an age of galloping globalization. Nowadays, we find African music everywhere and we also find everything in African music. This is not just a question of mere definition or recognition, or a question of genres and sociological utilities.
Call for Special Issue Proposals
The journal Frontiers of Narrative Studies (De Gruyter) is seeking proposals for special issues on subjects including but not limited to
*Fictional and factual narrative
*Cosmopolitanism and narrative theory
*Classical narratology revisited

I'm looking to fill out a panel tentatively entitled, "Youth, Precarity, and Expressive Culture: Creative Practices and Adaptations of Africa’s Youth." Ethnographic and historical approaches invited on any topic relating to expressive practices of marginalized/disenfranchised youth in Africa. A draft of the preliminary panel abstract is below:
In comes I, says Robbin to Bobbin. There were three Straw Bears and the little one said, rough music! Will the Phantom of the Opera feature in the Scottish play? This cold night will turn us all to fools and morris dancers: hocus pocus, and Faustus must be damned. There were three caskets, and only one contained the liar’s whetstone. Oh yes, there is a doctor to be found at the Hawk’s Well. Out, little spear, if herein thou be! What’s the time, Widow Twankey, at the Common Riding of the Valkyries? A knot, a knot! Waly waly wallflower in the eye of the sun, up and down and around the town.
