The centennial of the Treaty of Versailles compels scholars to reflect on the transformative effects of the Great War of 1914-18. Similarly, the culmination of the Seven Years’ War in 1763 represents a watershed moment in the 18th century. The development of tactics and strategy, the effects of military and political actions, and the shift in the balance of powers was felt by all combatants and their subjects.
