The Hong Kong History Project at the University of Bristol is pleased to announce that the second Postgraduate Workshop will take place on January 11-12, 2018. The workshop welcomes postgraduate students and early career scholars working on Hong Kong history and related disciplines in the UK and overseas, and provides an opportunity to network and the share ideas. Participants will be invited to give a twenty-minute presentation on the theme of challenges facing the study of Hong Kong’s history.

The emergence of Diaspora Studies as an academic discipline is closely linked to the disintegration of the key elements in the original diaspora narrative. Differentiating terms, such as ‘imperial’, ‘trade’, ‘labor’, and ‘cultural’ indicate that, in place of a catastrophic event, the causes and motivations for the emergence of diaspora have multiplied in the course of the 19th and 20th centuries.
