The workshop seeks to understand Sinophone literary and cinematic fields since the 1950s by examining Coming of Age narratives covering the geohistorical span of Chinese modernities. It revisits a selected corpus of coming-of-age fiction from Chinese speaking regions, ranging from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia to the broader Asian Sinosphere from new theoretical and methodological angles.

CFP: China in Latin America Working Papers Series

The Asian Studies Center (ASC) and the Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS) at the University of Pittsburgh jointly invite submissions for a series of working papers about the role of China in Latin America. This is a call for papers for a special session at the annual MLA convention to take place in New York, Jan 4 - 7, 2018.

The word hero is of Greek origin, in which mythology it referred to those who were favored by the gods or had “godlike” qualities. The Oxford English Dictionary describes heroes as “men of superhuman strength, courage, or ability.” The emphasis here is on super, an adjective that suggests heroism which goes beyond what human beings are expected to do.
