Children’s/Young Adult Literature and Culture
Seeking scholars to join a panel on the formative experiences of southern women activists for the November 2019 meeting of the Southern Historical Association in Louisville, Kentucky. Current panelists explore the coming-of-age experiences of African American lawyer Elreta Alexander and social work educator Sophonisba Breckinridge. Every tenth victim of the Holocaust was a Hungarian citizen, a victim group constituting half a million people. Among them, more than one hundred thousand were children and teenagers. Most of their names and stories are unknown. Although Anne Frank, one of the most well-known victims of the Holocaust, was herself a child, the perspectives and experiences of child victims (Hungarians and others) are often marginal in mainstream Holocaust research, education and remembrance.
Robin P. Chapdelaine and Lara Putnam are seeking contributors for an edited collection or journal special issue focused on child labor during the years leading up to independence in various colonies. We invite scholars to submit a 400 word abstract and CV to firstname.lastname@example.org by November 2nd, 2018. The 2-day workshop will be held March 29th-30th.
Queens in Waiting: Potential and Prospective Queens, Ambitions and Expectations
We are seeking proposals for essays to be included in a proposed volume on ‘Queens in Waiting’ to be submitted to the Queenship and Power series. The collection seeks to explore the processes of becoming or attempting (successfully or not) to become queen through a collection of case studies of individual women or comparative groupings of women. Potential topics could include but are not limited to:
