This exploratory conference aims to bring new work on Ming and Qing literature into dialogue with approaches to the history and theory of media from across the humanities. Following calls to shift attention from the contents to the workings of media forms, we ask how different media shaped the perception and sensory experience of the “literary.” What were the devices, supports, and surfaces that shaped and sustained the possibilities of literary communication?

One chapter is required on the subject of South Asian Literature for an edited collection entitled 'Women and Water in Global Literature'. The chapter will be a maximum of 8,000 words, to be submitted in full by April 2019. The focus must be on women's writing, and on any relevant interpretation of 'water' within it. This is for an edited collection which is largely complete, but needs this one further chapter for reasons of geographical/ cultural coverage. A contract has been signed for the volume with a major publishing house and publication is anticipated by 1st Jan 2020.
