We invite proposals for the Michaelmas term session of next year’s LSE International History Research Seminar (HY509).

The seminar welcomes presentations on any aspect of international history, broadly defined, with a focus on the eighteenth, nineteenth, and twentieth centuries. The seminar is an ideal environment to present research at an early stage and meet other students and faculty members from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Seminars will be held between September and December (LSE term time).

Freemasonry had a tremendous impact on modern European history and its ideas changed not only the way of thinking but also stimulated a political discourse. In the major works on Freemasonry, however, there is a mainly European focus. Although, in North and South America the import of masonic ideas had a similar effect. The early struggle between the York Rite and the Scottish Rite would lead to later party developments and Freemasons would create a major political impact in the “New World“ too.
