Call for papers for an edited collection

Fictions of African Dictatorship ed. by Charlotte Baker and Hannah Grayson

This book is a new contribution to a growing body of work on dictatorship and its representation. The collection will examine the fictional representation of the African dictator across genres, as well as the dictator’s presentation of his own image in official literature.

The editors are particularly interested in proposals that address the following, although this list is not intended to be restrictive:

Umẹwaẹn: Journal of Benin and Ẹdo Studies is currently accepting submissions for its upcoming issue to be published in 2017.

Umẹwaẹn is an open access and peer reviewed research journal hosted by the Department of History, State University of New York, Oswego, NY. It is dedicated to the study of the Benin Kingdom (Nigeria), Ẹdo speaking people, the border areas and the influence and relation of Benin Kingdom and Ẹdo speaking people with their neighbours and the wider world.

Migration is not new in the Southern African region. Its long history dates back to the late 19th century into the colonial, post-independence and post-Cold War eras, and into the late 1980s and early 1990s when most economies in Southern Africa underwent neoliberal economic reforms and structural adjustments. The economic reforms coincided with the end of apartheid in South Africa.
