Commemorating the first battle of the U.S.-Mexican War, this site stands as a reminder of the causes, events, and consequences of this 2 year conflict. The U.S.-Mexican War reshaped the map of North America, and it all began at Palo Alto. The clash over the Rio Grande Valley has been a debated topic in history, and the National Park Service wants to preserve this area's history to help scholars and visitors better understand this part of history.
