The American Social History Project/Center for Media and Learning at the City University of New York Graduate Center will host a two-week NEH Summer Institute for college and university teachers in July 2016 on the Visual Culture of the American Civil War and its Aftermath.  Applications to participate will be accepted via mail, e-mail, and our online application system until March 1, 2016.

I am putting together a panel on the politics of violence in 20th century U.S. history for the OAH in New Orleans in April 2017. We have a couple panelists and are looking for a few more participants. We are open to framing the panel broadly/around other panelists' work. We currently have someone working on gun control and another person working on public debates about decreasing violence in the 1960s and 1970s. I'm looking for secondary literature on the changes in the Democratic Party's delegate nomination process as a result of the Douglas-Fraser Commission's reform recommendations. The reforms are mentioned frequently, but I'm surprised that I cannot find works that address them more substantially and substantively (Bruce Miroff's book is the exception). Perhaps I'm missing something obvious. I'd be most grateful for any suggestions of literature, whether from historians or political scientists.
