The World Health Organisation argues that city growth poses a major ‘urban health threat’ in terms of: infectious diseases, noncommunicable diseases; and violence and injury from, amongst other things, road traffic. The World Institute of Psychology identifies multiple links between mood, behavior and the building and urban environments we inhabit, while the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research underlines how the design of places and spaces can actively exclude whole sections of society.

Set in this context, this conference seeks to share expertise from across the fields of health, wellbeing, architecture and urban planning. It is interested in healthy cities, health environments, sanitation and communicable disease, mental health and life in cities… and more.  Both conferences will lead to publications with several publishers, including Routledge.

Most recent publication: Designing for Health and Wellbeing: Home, City, Society.Vernon Press, 2019.

The specific call is for health and pyschology professionals wishing to engage with scholars from diverse disciplines connected to public health and wellbeing in the context of the city. Examples include: architects, urban designers, sociologists, policy makers and economists examining the finances of city managment.
