11th Annual Southern History of Science and Technology (SoHoST) Meeting

April 7-8, 2017 | Vanderbilt University | Nashville, TN

This year’s Southern History of Science and Technology (SoHoST) conference will be sponsored by the Vanderbilt University History Department and held on Friday and Saturday April 7-8, 2017, at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.

SoHoST aims to showcase outstanding scholarship and cultivate community for the growing number of programs and scholars in history of science and technology throughout the American South. This regional meeting provides a welcoming environment for graduate student presentations as well as a collegial venue for more established academics to try out new material.

Scholars at the graduate level and above are invited to submit paper, session, and/or roundtable proposals. If space permits, graduate students whose papers are accepted for presentation and who promptly confirm participation will be offered host housing in the home of a Vanderbilt faculty member or graduate student.

We welcome papers on topics related to all aspects of history, sociology, and anthropology of science, technology, and medicine in any time period. Presentations related to teaching, research methods, and digital humanities are also encouraged.

Please submit a brief paper proposal (~250 words) via our website ( by February 15, 2017. Questions may be directed to
