Encounters with Polish Literature: Gombrowicz

Patrice Dabrowski's picture

Dear Colleagues,

In the latest episode of "Encounters with Polish Literature," Prof. Bożena
Shallcross (University of Chicago) and I look at the work of Witold
Gombrowicz, focusing on the novels, *Ferdydurke* and *Trans-Atlantyk*. We
consider his conflicts with the émigré community, his struggles with what
he saw as ossified forms of cultural life among the Polish gentry, and his
attempts to maintain his identity as a Polish exile in Buenos Aires and as
a gay man in a closeted era.
