We hope you and your loved ones are keeping well during these strange times. As conferences aren’t taking place at the moment, we at Routledge, Taylor & Francis been thinking over the last few months about other ways we can engage with and support the Area Studies research community, now and in the future. As a result, I’m putting out this call to ask for your input on the large-scale Area Studies survey being run by the global Area Studies team at Routledge, Taylor & Francis.
As you may be aware, Routledge, Taylor & Francis colleagues around the world have been working with researchers in the discipline over the past few years to explore the future of Area Studies, for example, through ‘Raising Global Voices’ events in London and Tanzania, and we view this survey as a key step in identifying the current and future priorities of Area Studies researchers around the world. The survey questions focus on challenges and opportunities in the field, and the value of Area Studies research and outputs. Respondents’ answers will inform the activities we focus on in support of Area Studies publishing, and add a more detailed evidence-base to the informal feedback we regularly receive.
We are collaborating with the UK Council for Area Studies Associations (UKCASA), as well as other organisations and societies on whose behalf we publish globally, but are also reaching out to our journal Editors, related associations and networks involved with working to decolonise research and HE, as key collaborators working on the latest research for publication, workshops, conferences and, indeed, often mentors to the next generation of Area Studies scholars.
Here is some key information about the survey:
- It will be open until Friday 22nd May 2020, so please do complete your responses before then
- It should take a maximum of 20 minutes of your time
- Responses will be kept confidential and are anonymous
- Respondents will be entered into a draw to win a £100 Amazon gift voucher
- We plan to analyse and summarise results in the form of a white paper or similar output
We greatly appreciate your input and look forward to sharing the feedback from the survey in due course. If you’d be happy to do so, please do share this message and details of the survey widely with your colleagues and contacts globally; we are keen to ensure balanced gender/ geographical/ career stage representation as much as we possibly can.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
