Call for Proposals: SHEAR 2022 Graduate Student Research Workshops (ONLINE)
SHEAR is pleased to invite participants for the 7th annual graduate student research workshops, open to all current graduate students (or recipients of a 2021-2022 degree) with research interests in the era of the early United States and its world.
These workshops invite grad students and faculty to discuss common themes, important areas of research, and challenges faced by scholars in the field. Conversations in each group may turn alternately to subjects like archives, methodologies, and important secondary literature. Best of all, these seminars help participants to network amongst like-minded scholars, and to find potential partners for organizing panels for future conferences.
All workshops are free of charge and will be held online in advance of the in-person conference (which will take place in New Orleans on July 21-24). Participants do not need to attend the in-person conference in order to attend a graduate student workshop.

- History of Women and Gender with Amrita Chakrabarti Myers (Indiana University) and Honor Sachs (University of Colorado, Boulder)
Wednesday, July 20, 10am-12pm CST (11am-1pm EST):
- Empire and Transnational History with Brian DeLay (University of California, Berkeley) and Kariann Yokota (University of Colorado, Denver)
- Indigenous History with Kathleen DuVal (University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill) and Michael Witgen (Columbia University)
- African American History with Justene Hill Edwards (University of Virginia) and Calvin Schermerhorn (Arizona State University)
Enrollment in each seminar is limited. We aim to assign participants to their first choice, but if that session fills early, we will do our best to assign participants to their second choice. Include your graduate program (advisor, department, university), expected completion date, and your first and second seminar choice.
