Help Desk Resources

The Media tab has been replaced with a new Resources tab universally across the H-Net Commons. This was done to make it easier to collect, organize and display new projects, as well as existing projects, content, and media on the Networks. These Categories are broadly conceived (see below) and were set up as default templates for all networks. It is important to underscore, however, that network editors retain editorial control over their Networks' Resources tabs. They can be revised to suit the needs of each individual Network. The content on the Resources tab is generated by the use of categories and keywords applied by network editors when moderating content.

One Network might choose to remove the Articles and Journals of Interest Category altogether, while another might choose to add new sub-categories to the Teaching Resources category, such as Syllabi or Lesson Plans. A network editor may want to include a link to all your Network's lesson plans under Teaching Resources. To do so, they would categorize all lesson plan content on your Network as Network Projects and Lesson Plans. The system will then automatically construct and display the list of lesson plans that have been categorized Network Projects and Lesson Plans when you click on the link.

One important note of clarification: This page is designed to display projects that contain multiple contributions, rather than individual contributions. The Teaching Resources link, then, would display a list of projects that might include a page created to be a syllabus archive, as well as a page harvesting lesson plans, rather than just a stream of individual syllabi and lesson plans.

There there is likely already existing content on your Networks that could be included on these pages. The H-Net Home Office staff are available to help editors re-categorize existing content so that it will appear under your Resources tab. Ask your editors to contact us at for assistance getting your pages set up. An example resources tab appears below.

In order to have your contribution appear on one of the following project pages, please add the project type exactly as it appears below as a keyword and ask a network editor to add "Resources Tab" as a category (in the Context type) when submitting the post.

     Articles and Journals of Interest projects include lists of professional publications.


     Bibliographies of all kinds can be found here.  They might include publications in this network's field, specific bibliographies for use in teaching, etc.
