Captain Michael John, U.S. Navy (ret.) will present the seventeenth Gladys Hall Coates University History Lecture on Wednesday, April 12, 2017, in the Pleasants Family Assembly Room in the Wilson Special Collections Library at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  Capt. John will discuss how University students, faculty, staff, and alumni, from the earliest days of the University to today, have answered the call to military service.  The lecture will be at 5:30 pm.  Prior to the lecture, there will a reception and viewing of the “Doing Our Bit: UNC and the Great War” exhibition at 5:00 pm in the North Carolina Collection Gallery, also in the Wilson Special Collections Library.  The lecture series, begun in 2004, is sponsored by the North Carolina Collection, with co-sponsorship by the Friends of the Library.
