Meredith College will host an interdisciplinary symposium on World War I from April 6 - April 8, 2017. On the 100th anniversary of the U.S. declaration of war against Germany we will reflect on the history and the legacy of the Great War from both the regional and international perspective, with scholarship addressing topics including politics, public health, nationalism, colonialism, identity, the military and the home front. The full schedule of papers and additional information, as well as a link to register for the symposium, is available at http://www.meredith.edu/symposium-ww1

This symposium was inspired by a collection of essays on North Carolina and World War I edited by Shepherd W. McKinley and Steve Sabol, both of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. The edited volume of twenty essays will be published by the University of Tennessee Press in 2018.

On April 8, The North Carolina Museum of History is also opening its new exhibitiion, North Carolina and WWI, with a full day of events commemmorating the 100th anniversary of U.S. entry into the war.
