Repost from H-Japan
Dear H-Japan list member,
the Department of East Asian Studies – Japanese Studies at University of Vienna would like to draw your attention to the upcoming event in our online series u:japan lectures:
Anna Lughezzani
“Work ‘like a woman’: The construction of femininity and the female body in the Japanese shukatsu“
Date and time: Thursday 2020-10-15, 18:30~20:00 (CEST, UTC/GMT +2h)
The Zoom Meeting will be open from 18:15 (CEST), max. 100 participants.
In this virtual lecture, anthropologist Anna Lughezzani takes a closer look at gender specific modes of shukatsu, the phase of job hunting after completing education. The decisive social transformation of young adult Japanese into shakaijin, or proper members of society, is bound to socio-culturally constructed ideas of “right” femininity and masculinity.
