Repost from H-Japan
Dear H-Japan List Members,
the dean of the Faculty of Philological and Cultural Studies, the Department of East Asian Studies – Japanese Studies at University of Vienna and the Austria-Japan Study Group for Humanities, Social Sciences and Art cordially invite you to the online lecture:
“From Fenollosa to kokubungaku – Aesthetics and the birth of the utsukushii Nihon“
Date: Thursday 25.06.2020, 18:30~20:00 (CET)
The Zoom Meeting will be open from 18:15 (CET), max. 100 participants.
In this virtual lecture, historian Arthur Mitteau shows that aesthetics in Japan as a modern discipline not only pertains to the history of human sciences. Its evolution has indirect implications for the history of representations, society, and in the end, for the image that Japan built of itself, and of its own past, in the 20th century.
