Meet the Editors
I am a historian of the modern Middle East specializing in labor migration; displacement/refugees; border studies; and diasporas within and from the region. My first book, Between the Ottomans and the Entente: The First World War in the Syrian and Lebanese Diaspora, 1908-1925, explores the war work of Arab activists in Brazil, Argentina, and the United States, and reveals the repercussions of diasporic activism for nationality laws and repatriation regimes in the post-Ottoman Middle East. My new project focuses on Syrian textile workers in Latin America. I began editing H-Migration in 2015, initially to stay informed about emerging trends in migration history. Since that time, H-Migration has challenged me to think broadly about how concepts of mobility, migration, and displacement iterate across various subfields. My goal at H-Migration is to create space for historians from different regional/area foci to talk to one another, bringing the best of our conceptual strengths to the rest of the historical discipline.
