CFP: ANTHROPOLOGY AND MEDIATORS IN THE FIELD OF HEALTH POLICIES
April 2 – 4/2014
University of Brasília, Brazil

This event, located within the field of anthropology of health and also the anthropology of the state and politics, has the main objective to think the different actors that are in the design, implementation and experiences of health policies. Such actors can be, for example, managers, health professionals and popular therapists, "patients", their families and communities, researchers and their teams, universities and funders. How these actors relate and which health policies are being undertaken? Do they act as mediators between knowledge and various belongings? What has been called "mediation" in the field of health policy?

The main idea of the event is to strengthen the important place of anthropology in thinking about healthcare policy. What issues related to these policies interest anthropology at the level of basic, secondary or tertiary healthcare, regarding the executive power, international cooperation, social movements, etc.? How have anthropologists done research in these areas and what have been their challenges? What contribution anthropology could offer to consolidate more sensitive and inclusive health policies in the country? Can the university also act as a mediator in these policies? The fact that the event will happen in Brasilia can foster dialogue with the different (non)governamental areas that exist in the city.
